I just haven’t taken it out of the box yet to try and install it. I’m sure it will be a quick and easy process, but there is always the chance that I’ll be totally perplexed and I’ll end up getting frustrated. Reading directions are always a challenge, but if we get all the snow that we are supposed to get tonight I’ll have plenty of time to figure it all out.

Holiday Table Talk about Identity Theft http://allisonenglish.com/?p=244 http://allisonenglish.com/?p=244#comments Fri, 08 Jan 2010 02:33:11 +0000 admin http://allisonenglish.com/?p=244 Such interesting (and some not too interesting) stories are told around the holiday’s dinner table each and every year. There are some stories that will be told over and over each year as well as the new ones that are being formed as we speak.

I’m the type of person that is happy sitting just about anywhere, beside anybody, heck I don’t even mind having to sit at the “kids” table. I always have a blast with the kids and at times enjoy what they are talking about more than the adults are gabbing on and on about! Some years I eat the meal with the big kids and then spend time eating desert with the younger ones of the family, it works out well.

This year I spent the whole meal at the “kids” table. It was a lot of fun, I got to spend time with my nieces and nephews that I normally don’t have a lot of time to do through out the year. Besides all my parents wanted to discuss that night was all the home improvement stories that they have been saving for the Christmas dinner. They have been busy bees around the place and were just bursting to gab about it all. Kinda cute actually, it’s cool to see them that jazzed up about something for a change.

They have been looking for some time at the different Mailboxes that are on the market these days. They had to make sure that their mailbox had their street number on it and came with a good durable lock to keep their mail safe. The neighborhood has been going down hill a bit lately and they have had to deal with mail boxes being vandalized and mail being stolen. Not good, ya know. So they have been doing their home work and utilizing the Internet to their best ability, to learn all they could about Residential Mailboxes and where to get the best product for a good price. My dad was even willing to purchase one of the Commercial Mailboxes if he had to in order to keep their mail safe. They are taking this very seriously and I am proud of them for it. Identity theft is a major issue with our senior citizens, we don’t even want to end up going there.

Always Check Your Child’s Homework http://allisonenglish.com/?p=240 http://allisonenglish.com/?p=240#comments Tue, 05 Jan 2010 04:18:26 +0000 admin http://allisonenglish.com/?p=240 mommypole

(Here’s the reply the teacher received the following day)

Dear Mrs. Swanson,

I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer. I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get to buy it. Her picture doesn’t show me dancing around a pole. It’s supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot.

From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jacobs

Comparison Shopping Via The Internet http://allisonenglish.com/?p=238 http://allisonenglish.com/?p=238#comments Tue, 05 Jan 2010 04:12:36 +0000 admin http://allisonenglish.com/?p=238 One of my issues that I’m going to tend to this new year is trying to reduce some of my monthly bills that I have to face each month. I’m thinking that if I check into a new cell phone provider, or at least the changing of my current package. The Internet has played a key role in comparison shopping. I’ve all ready switched from cable to satellite and am happy with the changes there and am saving a few bucks along the way.

Another thing that the Internet will help with is getting some new and updated auto insurance quotes, I’m looking to raising my deductibles which should help with the price that I (we) all have to pay for car insurance, by law. It’s so much faster that the days of having to call around to the various insurance companies looking for car insurance quotes from numbers that you found in the local Yellow Pages. Just by inputting a few key pieces of information at web sites such as Insurancequotes.com and you can have multiple auto insurance quotes in just minutes, I like that!

The economy isn’t letting up any time soon. Now that the holidays are over and done with, it is time to get serious about money issues. I want to be able to have some fun this summer, I have accumulated 2 weeks off of work this year and I intend on enjoying a good part of it at the beach, and the beach isn’t free by any means.

Towers on The Grove, Myrtle Beach http://allisonenglish.com/?p=233 http://allisonenglish.com/?p=233#comments Wed, 23 Dec 2009 01:39:06 +0000 admin http://allisonenglish.com/?p=233 O.K. the Christmas rush is totally on. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I’ve finally finishing all my shopping and preparations that have needed all of my attention this last week or so. The 21 inches of snow that we got over the weekend made it a challenge for most us to get everything done. The roads are a nightmare, the malls are packed and I’m so done with Christmas shopping at this point.

I’m off work tomorrow, so I’ll be spending the day getting the very last minute odds and ends done and then I’m going to spend the rest of the day on my laptop. I’m still digging around for the best Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resort that I want to spend time at this up and coming summer with a few friends. I had no idea that there were so many Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resorts to choose from, but it has been interesting, to say the least.

I’ve had a few folks recommend some of their favorite Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels, but just can’t make a commitment right now. I really want to have somethings lined up before I see these friends again, which will be right after Christmas. I’d like to have at least one or two of the better Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotel information readily available to present to them, so it’s a good thing I have the day off tomorrow.

I’ll keep you posted and wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday!

Amazing Sand Paintings http://allisonenglish.com/?p=230 http://allisonenglish.com/?p=230#comments Wed, 23 Dec 2009 01:21:05 +0000 admin http://allisonenglish.com/?p=230 This video shows the winner of 2009’s ” Ukraine ’s Got Talent,” Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch. The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience to tears and she won the top prize of about $75,000.

She begins by creating a scene showing a couple sitting holding hands on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear and the happy scene is obliterated. It is replaced by a woman’s face crying, but then a baby arrives and the woman smiles again. Once again war returns and Miss Simonova throws the sand into chaos from which a young woman’s face appears. She quickly becomes an old widow, her face wrinkled and sad, before the image turns into a monument to an Unknown Soldier. This outdoor scene becomes framed by a window as if the viewer is looking out on the monument from within a house. In the final scene, a mother and child appear inside and a man standing outside, with his hands pressed against the glass, saying good-bye.

The Great Patriotic War, as it is called in Ukraine, resulted in one in four of the population being killed with eight to 11 million deaths out of a population of 42 million. Kseniya Simonova says:

”I find it difficult enough to create art using paper and pencils or paintbrushes, but using sand and fingers is beyond me. The art, especially when the war is used as the subject matter, even brings some audience members to tears. And there’s surely no bigger compliment.”

Please take time out to see this amazing piece of art.

Going Green, Down Under……………… http://allisonenglish.com/?p=225 http://allisonenglish.com/?p=225#comments Mon, 21 Dec 2009 22:53:02 +0000 admin http://allisonenglish.com/?p=225 As you know I enjoy surfing the World Wide Web. It fascinates me so to be able to peek into other worlds, people’s lives and their towns and some times their country as well, business and personnel alike. Google has a few great translation sites that come in handy, when needed. I prefer looking into things that are basically in our language, you know places from the U.K and Australia they are the easiest and I usually enjoy reading about what is going on there.

The one site that I was looking into was one of their waste management services that is committed to resource recovery and recycling in Australia. I’m a total recycling advocate and am always looking into companies that recycle. When I googled “facilities management sydney” I came up with veoliaes.com and had an interesting read on what they are doing for our Mother Earth and being as green as they can.

I was glad to see that they just recently started their “Clean Up and Out for the New Year” urging to get people to call and talk to them about the range of skip bins that they have available for their customers, to make recycling even easier than it is all ready. If you are provided a bin to put your cans and glass jars in and a bin to put your paper products in then what else needs to be done in order to get your recyclables to where they need to be to be recycled.

I know that I want my kids and grandchildren to live in a clean world. One with trees, water and fresh air. By golly I’m going to do what I can to make sure that they have these things, it’s all good!
